Semi Final misery again | 17/05/09
The Amateurs hearts were broken at the semi final stage once more, as they were defated 1-0 at the death away to Newtown. With the Amateurs down to their bare bones, along with illness and injury affecting some players on the pitch, the side can hold their heads high. Chances for both sides were limited, and penalties were probably the fairest way to seperate the sides. However, with minutes to go, Newtown scored after the ball richoched off the hand of a Newtown striker, leaving the Amateurs justifiably aggrevied.

Share of spoils | 15/04/09
The Amateurs recorded a 3-3 draw away to Kelso on Saturday. In the first half Kelso went 3-0 up thanks to some sloppy defending and general lethargy on the Amateurs side. In the second half Tweedmouth were a different side. A Colhouqn half volley made the score 3-1 with 20 minutes to go. This provided a much needed boost and Tweedmouth had a second 5 minutes later thanks to a killer through ball by Tait, which Patterson converted in typical fashion. The equaliser came with 5 minutes to play, when Tait volleyed home with his left foot with aplomb. The chance to win the game fell to the excellent Clark in the last minute, but he missed his chance from close range trying to divert his effort past the Kelso goalkeeper.
Battling performance | 06/04/09
The Amateurs made the long away trip to Peebles for the third time this season, with only 11 players and missing inspirational manager Robin Clark. The Amateurs started well with Patterson providing a poked finish from a Clark through ball. Peebles got back into the game when 2 instances of slack defending allowed them to take the lead before half time. Interim manager Moor inspired the side to bounce back second half and they did after 15 or so minutes when Tait charged down a defenders clearance carried the ball into the box and crossed to find Patterson who finished to bring the score level. A sucker punch was to follow when a soft penalty was awarded to Peebles who again took the lead. Tweedmouth now had to bounce back again, and the equalizer came when good work from Pearson and Colhouqn lead to Tait picking out Patterson with a pin-point cross, which was dually finished my the veteran marksman. As Peebles tired the Amateurs fitness proved decisive. The lead came when a poorly cleared corner fell to Clark, who finished excellently on the volley. The finishing touch came when Clark played it through to Patterson again to seal his forth. The Colts drew 3-3 at home to St Boswells.
History made | 06/04/09
The Amateurs defeated first division side Gala Rovers 6-3, for the first time in their history. This was a spirited and classy performance from the Amateurs. Patterson opened the scoring with a fine solo effort, only for Gala to reply direct from a corner soon after. This spurred the Amateurs back into action, with Patterson again scoring to regain the lead, with Robertson adding a third soon after thanks to a long Drummond throw in. Just prior to the mid-way interval Gala got another back thanks to a scuffed Amateurs clearance. In the second half the Amateurs had the wind in their face but did not change their football, and were rewarded when Clark converted a indirect free kick. The score now stood at 4-2, but the 2 goal cushion was again taken away when good header from a Gala forward got them back within touching distance. Tweedmouth responded again, with good interplay between Robertson and Patterson on the left wing ended with Tait finishing with a volley from 12 yards. The game was won when Patterson got his hat-rick late on, ending the game 6-3. The Colts were defeated 1-0 away to Hawick Legion, with a heart-wrenching last minute winner proving decisive for Hawick Legion.
Back on track | 29/03/09

4 points out of 6 | 17/03/09
The Amateurs earned a well needed 3 points in the league on Saturday against Ancrum at home. The Amateurs took the lead when Patterson played a precise through ball for Powling who found the net via the inside the post. Ancrum equalised quickly thanks to some sloppy defending at the back post from a free kick. The scoreline remained level until 5 minutes from time when the Amateurs found a breakthrough to win 2-1. Aitchison picked the ball up outside the box, and slotted a well weighted pass into Taits feet in the box, who then found Patterson who slotted home. The Colts picked up a point away to Langham (2-2) despite giving their worst performance of the season.
Amateurs lose, Colts Win | 12/03/09
The Amateurs were defeated 2-0 away to Greenlaw thanks to 2 goalkeeping blunders from Ian Paulson. The defeat was harsh on the outfield players who played well, apart from Tait who was anonymous for large periods. The Colts added a well needed 3 points to their league total with a 3-1 victory against Gala United. Goals from Reid and Howard provided a well earned victory for the Colts.
Mixed fortunes in the cup | 03/03/09
The Amateurs progressed into the semi finals after a 4-1 victory away to Peebles, whilst the Colts were knocked out after a 2-1 defeat to Eyemouth. The Amateurs took an early lead thanks to a deflected Robertson cross, converted by Tait with a classy left footed volley from the edge of the box. The second soon followed when Robertson released Patterson, who didnt make a perfect connection with his shot, but still found the net. In the second half Peebles got one back thanks to Paulson spilling a cross, which was poked home by the Peebles forward. This spurred the Amateurs into action again, and Patterson netted 2 late goals to make the tie safe. The Amateurs can look forward to a semi final tie against either Gordon, Greenlaw or Hawick.
Amateurs scrape past Colts | 23/02/09
The tie the whole club had been eagerly anticipating for weeks produced the expected result, with the Amateurs advancing to the next round. However, it wasn't as comfortable as many had predicted, with the Amateurs recording a 2-1 victory. The Colts took the lead when a cheaply conceded free kick was awarded. Classy Dave Brown took the free kick from 35 yards, where the flight of the ball deceived Paulson to end up in the Amateurs net. This gave the Amateurs a kickstart they needed and they quickly found an equaliser, thanks to a tidy Clark finish, after some neat build up play from Tait and Patterson. The pressure on the Colts goal continued, and the second soon followed. A corner lead to confusion and panic in the Colts box, and the ball was eventually diverted into his own net by the unlucky Goodlet. In the second half the game ebbed and flowed but chances were rare, with defenders coming out on top for both sides. The best chance for the Colts fell to Reid, but he could not convert his chance. Tait came closest for the Amateurs, when he crashed a shot off the bar after excellent hold up play from Patterson. In the end the result was probably fair, with the Colts in particular giving a very good account of themselves.
Cup Delight | 31/01/09
Both the Amateurs and the Colts recorded morale boosting 4-3 victories in the cup on Saturday. The Amateurs started very poorly against Jedburgh, the team who they were playing for the 4th time this season, and had defeated them 2-1 in their last game 2 weeks ago. A mix of careless passing, and general lethargy, allowed Jedburgh to take a 3-0 lead, who must be credited for their football at times on Saturday. But the Amateurs got the boost they needed when Jed scored an own goal with 19 minutes remaining. This spurred the side into action, and a second soon followed, after a terrific header from goal machine Patterson. The equaliser followed soon after good work from super sub Moor led to Pattersons second, who finished crisply. Tweedmouth completed the fairy-tale come back, after Tait won a free kick on the edge of the box, which was taken by Clark, and converted by Robertson, who glanced his header home.
The Colts faced a long trip away to Langham, but will be happy with their victory, after a brace each from dynamic duo John Short and Dave Brown. Each side will be on a high leading into this weekends dream clash, with the Amateurs and the Colts facing each other in the cup (weather permitting).
Jedburgh Deja vu | 17/01/09
The Amateurs began 2009 in dissapointing fashion, losing away again 2-1 to bogey team Jedburgh in the league. Jed took the lead after a Paulson mistake, which was unfair on Tweedmouth after a dominant first half. The Amateurs drew level after the break, after some good harrying from Tait lead to a Robertson shot which was parried by the Jed keeper, Colhouqn then squared the ball for Patterson to stroke home. Tweedmouth took their foot off the gas and were made to pay when the Jed centre back produced a finish of real quality to break Amateurs hearts. This game was another harsh lesson on Tweedmouth, who must learnt to deal with high balls, and cut out silly mistakes.
Another Victory | 02/12/08
The Amateurs got another 3 points, away to Selkirk on Saturday. The side came out of the traps fast and were 4-0 up after 30 minutes, thanks to some clinical finishing, and expansive counter attacks. Prolific Patterson (2), Colquhoun and Pearson provided the goals. Clark was lost to injury and this interuppted the early flow of the game. The Amateurs made it to half time with the 4-0 lead intact. In the second half Selkirk improved, and the Amateurs sat back, allowing them to score a couple of goals. With the score at 4-2 Tweedmouth managed to make the game safe after some dynamic forward play from Patterson and Colquhoun. This resulted in Colquhoun notching his second of the game, to cap an excellent individual performance. Selkirk scored another late goal but it was too little too late and the Amateurs can be proud of their 5-3 victory. The Colts lost 4-2 away to Gala Utd.
Back to winning ways | 24/11/08
The Amateurs recorded a long overdue win at home to Gordon on Saturday, recording an emphatic 6-1 victory. The team was thread bare for the second week on the trot, but Tweedmouth stalwart Strang stepped in and provided an assured display alongside Bain, Tait and Moor in midfield. Patterson was in fine form, giving the Gordon defence a torrid time and notching 4 goals in the process. Moor and Clark provided the other goals in typically stylish fashion. The Colts produced a spirited display againt table toppers Tweeddale but were defeated 3-1. There were positives for both sides to take from the results, and both can look onwards and upwards for the rest of the campaign.
Double Defeat| 17/11/08
The Amateurs and the Colts were both defeated again. The Amateurs had a thin squad and a questionable pitch to deal with, and eventually were beaten 2-1 away to Hawick. Clark provided a first half lead, with an assured finish from a classy Blackhall cross. The lead was immediately lost thanks to a Paulson slip. Hawick nicked a second early after the break and the Amateurs pressed for an equaliser but failed to break them down. The Colts were defeated 4-1 by Chirnside.

Tait and Patterson Rescue Point | 05/10/08
The Amateurs drew 2-2 with table toppers Greenlaw. In difficult conditions the top two in the league met at the 5 arches in an absorbing game. This was a game of two halves with Greenlaw dominating the first half and Tweedmouth the second. In the first half defensive mix ups and good finishing from Greenlaw gave them a deserved 2-0 lead. Tweedmouth had a couple half chances but failed to take any and were left with a difficult task to get back into the game against a side who hadn't conceded a goal all season. In the second half Tweedmouth came out with improved attitude and began to create chances. After a number of spurned chances and good saves from the Greenlaw Number 1, Tweedmouth finally scored with 15 minutes remaining, thanks to a dangerous Clark free kick, which was met by Tait who applied a cool finish. Tweedmouth continued to press and grabbed an equalizer courtesy of a Patterson goal, who provided an excellent finish deep in injury time. The Colts did not have a game.
Battling Victory | 29/09/08
The Amateurs recorded a 4-1 victory away to Winton. Under difficult conditions and faced with some questionable refereeing decisions Tweedmouth battled well to secure another 3 points. In the second half goals from Blackhall and Patterson secured the points, which was followed by a soft penalty for Winton, which was despatched comfortably, offering them scant consolation.
