Tweedmouth Colts 1 Gala Hotspur 321/01/2012

Tweedmouth traveled to the wet and windy Galashiels on Saturday and were knocked out of The Sanderson Cup.
In the first half Tweedmouth opted to go into the strong wind and battled well to keep the score down to 1-0 going into the break. A big task considering the conditions. When the teams came out in the second half Tweedmouth applied pressure and were caught on the counter attack, the Gala striker smashing the ball past Cain in the Colts' net.

Tweedmouth carried on trying to play and create opportunites and eventually pulled a goal back when Williamson crossed into the penalty area; Henderson volleyed the ball into the ground and found Jordan Clark at the back post to head home from 6 yards. From then on the game went downhill for Tweedmouth and Hotspur put daylight between the two teams. The only shining light of the second half was Paul Cain who played superbly in holding midfield.

Hearts Of Liddesdale 1 Tweedmouth Amateurs 221/01/2012

Tweedmouth made the long trip to Newcastleton on Saturday and came away with a well deserved three points.  What makes it more impresive is that Tweedmouth had only eleven players due to the flu bug and work, plus the Hearts hadnt lost a league game at home for three years.

The Amateurs started well and at times played some decent football, but it was the homeside who opened their account from the penalty spot after Powling in the Amateurs goal was ajudged to have pulled a Hearts forward down when it looked as if the forward had ran into him. Tweedmouth countinued to press but couldnt find the net and themselves had a good shout for a penalty turned down when Blythe was upended in the box.

In the second half Tweedmouth coutinued to push on and played a high line not letting the Hearts out of their own half. The Amateurs midfeild worked hard, stopping the home team from building any momentom, but when they did put a few passes together they found the Amateurs defence in good form. However with two long balls over the top the Hearts did manage two breakaways. One that ended up hitting the post, and another, Powling and Gibb kept out between them.

Tweedmouth got back onto level terms with fifteen minutes remaining, with a well worked corner found Cromarty who made no mistake from three yards. Tweedmouth kept pushing not wanting to settle for a point and got their reward, when Robertsons shot from the edge of the box beat the home keeper hands down.

With five minutes to go the forwards Blackhall and Blythe held the ball up well allowing their team to keep possesion in the Hearts half and running the clock down, which frustrated the homeside. This was Tweedmouth back to playing the football that they can and their hard work and detemination was outstanding from every single one of them.

Hawick Utd 2 Tweedmouth Amateurs 114/01/2012

Tweedmouth knew this was going to be a tricky game for them and it proved to be just that. Utd moved the game to the Royal Albert pitch so that the game could go ahead and it didnt take long for the pitch to turn into a mud bath, which suited Hawick more than the Amateurs, but it wasnt the pitch that undone the Tweedmouth defence, it was a long threw which wasnt dealt with, which has been a problem all season.

Tweedmouth had chances to level before the break, the best falling to new signing Blythe, who broke free with the keeper to beat he srewed his shot wide. The same player had a decent debut and could be what the Amateurs have been missing this season.

The second half was just a battle, and on by now a really bad pitch. It was always going to be about mistakes and it was a mistake that lead to Hawicks second, when a Hawick forward was gifted the ball thirty yards out and was free to take on Richardson in the Amateurs goal.

Tweedmouths goal came from Clark, after good work from Philips, who from his own half played one, twos, from different players, before setting Clark up, and when Cromartys header was inches wide, the Amateurs knew yet again it wasnt going to be their afternoon.

Tweedmouth Colts 11 St. Boswells 007/01/2012

The Colts returned from the festive break in good spirits to face St. Boswells at home.
The match started as a very scrappy affair until Mikey Patterson broke through the St. Boswells defense, neatly dinking over the on-rushing 'keeper. Purvis was brought down by the St. Boswells' goalkeeper and Brown converted from the spot - something which Tweedmouth have failed to do so far this season. By the end of the first half Tweedmouth were 7 goals to the good without reply; Patterson completing his hat trick while Purvis netted his third of the season and veterans Dixon and Grieve found the net yet again.

Tweedmouth started the second half the same way they finished the first and kept hammering away at the St. Boswells defense. Patterson completed his four goal haul with a diving header, provided by a superb cross by Ross Williamson. Jordan Clark entered the game with 20 minutes left and ended the game with 2 goals under his belt and James Davidson rounded off the scoring when he ran through, lobbed the keeper and volleyed home.

All in all a good performance for the Colts after shaking off the rust that was evident in the first 20 minutes. A big challenge comes next week though, when they're away to Gala Hotspur in the cup. A special mention for James Davidson who will be posted in Germany for 6 months serving the British Army.

Tweedmouth Amateurs 0 Coldstream 307/01/2012

Tweedmouth returned to league action after the christmas break and the festive celebrations showed in both teams. With players missing through work and family commitments, a certain Stevie Roughead had to roll back the year so that the homeside could feild eleven.

The first fifteen minutes the Amateurs were caught twice, the first was a break down the right which stand in keeper Powling was unlucky not to save. the second was a well driven shot from the edge of the box that found the bottom corner. The Amateurs didnt let their heads drop and began to create a few chances and were a little unlucky not to get something before the break.

The second half Tweedmouth pushed but again was net shy and with some poor decision making in the last third made it look reasonably comfortable for the visitors. With ten minutes remaining Coldstream sealed the points, scoring on the break. Although the scoreline suggests other wise. the back three with man of the match Bain, Cromarty and Gibb all had a fine game for the Amateurs

Tweedmouth Amateurs 1 Ancrum 203/12/2011

Tweedmouth went down to the high flying Ancrum who havent lost this season yet but the games the Amateurs have played them they have been a bit lucky to take the victories. Tweedmouth started well and showed signs of the football that they are capable of. Robertson went close with a shot that went just wide of the post, he also had a couple of headers which just cleared the bar.

Clark had a shot that flew just over but it was Ancrum who opened the scoring with a fine chip over Paulson in the home goal. The homesides heads didnt drop and they carried on to pressure Ancrum, but with no reward.

The second half again tweedmouth took the game to Ancrum and for the second week running was caught on the break and the visitors doubled their lead. This seemed to make the Amateurs more determined and from a cromarty free kick Clark headed home to give his side some hope with ten minutes to go.

A cross from Clark took a deflection from an Ancrum defender and on to the bar to sum ip the kind of luck Tweedmouth has had recently, but a good game of football to watch.

Tweedmouth Amateurs 0 Jed Legion 126/11/2011

Jed have taken six points off Tweedmouth in the last two weeks, but they were lucky on Saturday because it was the home side that took the game to them and created the majority of the chances.

The previous week the Amateurs didn't deserve anything from the game but this week they had no luck whatsoever, especially in front of goal.  They also had a decent shout for a penalty turned down, after Young went down in the box. Gibb, Clark, Aitchison, Colquhoun, Robertson and Cromarty all had chances but some good saves, desperate defending and bad luck kept them out.

The Jed Legion keeper was definately the busier of the two keepers but with eighty nine minutes on the clock a Gibb and Clark mix up on the edge of the Jed box lead to Jed breaking and scoring the winner. Tweedmouth would have been a little dissappointed with just a point because of the way they played, but to take nothing from the game really hurts...but thats football. A special mention to young Kieran Bowell who played well when he went on for the injured Colquhoun.

Jed Legion 2 Tweedmouth Amateurs 119/11/2011

This was a dissappointing display from the Amateurs, whos passing game deserted them all over the park. Jedburgh did well having lost their last seven games and they were first to everything while the Amateurs looked lethargic and flat footed.

It was Jed who took the lead from the penalty spot after a long throw in and Phillips who was judged to have handled. Then came the only bit of football the Amateurs could muster up all afternoon, when Clarks through ball put Moore in behind the Jed defence and his cross was met well by Cromarty whos left footed shot found the bottom corner.

There wasn't any improvement in the second half and the Amateurs got what they deserved, when from a corner a Jed forward out jumped three Tweedmouth players to score what was proved to be the winner.

Tweedmouth Colts 4 Kelso Thistle 419/11/2011

Tweedmouth Colts played host to Kelso Thistle on Saturday and it was the Colts who started the brightest, Purves with a smart turn played Henderson through who crossed for Patterson to head home. Williamson set up Cumming's spectacular goal which was rounded off by his trademark celebration. Kelso pulled one back just before half time, although the Colts had been playing some of their best football of the season.

The Colts came out of the traps in the second half, going into a seemingly comfortable 3-1 lead through Patterson's second of the day. Some decisions which on another day could have gone the other way and a silly, slack ten minutes saw Kelso pull two goals back and draw level. The Colts took the lead again through David Brown's driven strike from the edge of the box, but Kelso pulled one back through some slack defending of a corner.

This was the performance of the season for Tweedmouth, but for a ten minute spell which cost them 3 points.

Selkirk Victoria 4 Tweedmouth Amateurs 412/11/2011

Tweedmouth travelled to Selkirk and on a difficult and muddy pitch came away with a point, but it could have been a lot worse for the Amateurs who were down to the bear bones.

Selkirk got off to a flying start scoring in the first five minutes from a long throw which the Amateurs couldnt deal with. Tweedmouth created a few chances but had problems finding the target.

The second half started bad for the Amateurs because within ten minutes they were four nil down and looking very sloppy, but Cromarty lifted his team with a right foot drive into the corner of the net, and a few minutes later Aitchison found the net and the Amateurs began to believe they could get something from the game. Aitchison got his second and his teams third and Selkirk began to panic plus their legs had gone.

Cromarty got on the end of a Colquhoun cross to make it all square and was unlucky not to get on the end of a Moores cross to win it, these are just a few of the chances Tweedmouth created and the goals they conceded were soft, but the fight back in the last fifteen minutes was outstanding.

Travelling costs were met by Greaves West and Ayre.
